Sponsored by Glue-U Adhesives and Werkman Hoofcare, this three-day educational event brings together farriers, veterinarians, and equine professionals for a dynamic lineup of presentations, live demonstrations, and hands-on workshops.

Kick off Friday afternoon with a series of engaging one-hour presentations featuring industry experts covering topics from shoe modification credentials to GluShu applications and veterinary insights.

Saturday is Demonstration Day, where you'll observe live demos including advanced shoeing techniques, glue-on technology, and collaborative vet-farrier care approaches—plus an interactive lunch break for networking.

Sunday wraps up with small group, 30 minute hands-on sessions rotating through specialized stations for in-depth learning and practical skill-building with each presenter.

Whether you're looking to expand your technical knowledge or connect with professionals in the field, the Fall Farrier Expo offers valuable continuing education in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Deep within the hoof capsule, a single convergence point of the wall laminae, bar laminae, and sole corium marks the anatomical heel. This area is essentially the “internal seat of corn”. Common anatomical variations occur with different heel shapes. Meticulously taken images will help us explore how these structures can be affected and change shape by various factors, such as load on the hoof, compensatory stance, conformation, and environment. Exploring some of the most common changes may provide a better understanding of how to effectively trim various heel types.

Presenter
Paige Poss has dedicated over 25 years to the hoof care industry, where she specializes in trimming horse hooves, conduction distal limb anatomy studies, and creating educational materials. Holding a BS degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University, Paige initially ventured into the field as a lab tech at various research facilities. However, her journey took a turn in 1999 when a lame horse ignited her passion for hoof care. In collaboration with her business partner, Jenny Edwards, Paige co-founded Anatomy of the Equine, LLC, a platform that publishes and sells education materials tailored for farriers and veterinary professionals. Paige’s unique approach blends her love for photography, science, anatomy and art. Her fascination with hoof and horse anatomy has led her to dissect and photographically document hundreds of lower legs and even whole horses.

Her most impactful dissection images, to date, focus on the palmar digital nerve as it descends deep into the hoof capsule. In 2020, Paige stepped back into the academic field and was asked to set up and manage the anatomy lab at the new University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in this lab from 2020-2022 before returning to trimming and lecturing independently. As of 2024, Paige has delved into researching Equine Metabolic Syndrome as a lab tech at the University of Arizona. Paige’s unwavering commitment to understanding hoof mechanics, coupled with her technical skills, positions her as a trailblazer in the industry. Her dissections and clinics provide a creative and encouraging platform for others to explore hoof mechanics. Through her passion for teaching, Paige creates powerful images that not only educate but also inspire a deeper appreciation for the intricate world of horse anatomy. Paige continues to actively participate in clinics and speaking engagements, sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience. Currently residing in the Sonoran Desert in Tucson, AZ, Paige shares her home with her husband, cats, dog and horses.

Wear Patterns, What They Really Mean

This two-part webinar series introduces a protocol for establishing patterns of movement and wear patterns.

Part 1 – Hoof Wear Patterns and How to Create a Schematic
How do we know what effect our trimming has on equine hooves? In this session Nick Hill will introduce a protocol for establishing how our trimming affects equine hooves and movement. The protocol is extremely simple and efficient to use with a mobile phone, camera, or pen and paper. Nick will teach how to educate horse owners about the protocol so they are able to produce schematics and monitor their own horses. The protocol is a tangible tool that will help vets with lameness issues and when used on a regular basis acts as a record to validate your work.

Part 2 – How to Use the Schematic and Validate Your Work
Once you have established patterns of movement it becomes easier to detect any abnormalities and identify and treat problems before they become serious. This session revisits and expands on the protocol taught in Part 1. Nick’s protocol will maximize the efficiency of biomechanics and reduce strain and stress on the horse.

Presenter
Nick Hill is a natural hoof care practitioner. His training started with the use of shoes for horses in June 2003 when he began working alongside qualified FRC farriers who taught him the Cytek method. He was a farrier with Cytek until 2006, when his training suddenly took a drastic turn because his feelings about hoof care resonated with Jaime Jackson’s work and research on wild horses. In March of the same year he started training with the AANHCP training program. Along with Jamie Jackson, Nick’s mentors include Todd Jaynes and Richard Dewry. Nick has traveled and shadowed other practitioners around Europe (Italy, France and UK). In 2009 he accepted placement in the Board of Directors for the AANHCP alongside Jaime Jackson, Bruce Nock, Ann Corso and Richard Dewry. Nick is a registered instructor with Liberated Horsemanship. He has taught clinics in Europe, Africa, America, and Israel teaching professionals and horse owners to understand a different way of managing and maintaining their equines. V&T Equine Services aims to help anyone in the world through their clinics and educational offerings.

Third Wednesday each month, so for 2025: 3/19, 4/16, 5/21, 6/18, 7/16, 8/20, 9/17, 10/15, 11/19, 12/17.

Central NC clinic location rotates monthly, including Chapel Hill, New Hill, Southern Pines, Wake Forest. See monthly announcement in https://www.facebook.com/groups/978968283546217

A DVM/Farrier/Owner Team provides an equine case in need of podiatry-related ideas. The examinations, radiography and dinner are gratis; the owner makes their own financial arrangement with their farrier. The meeting is from 6 PM to 9PM. While everyone is settling in & getting some food and drink there is a general topic of discussion for farriers and veterinarians’ joint interest. For example, on 10/19/2023 the presentation and discussion was on considerations for shoeing for landing versus loading.,

Then, the horse’s owner, veterinarian and farrier provide a medical history. The group will observe the horse in motion in the aisle, arena and/or driveway. Next the group does a podiatry examination followed by Dr. Radkin doing podiatry radiographs for the group to discuss. Then a trimming and possible shoeing plan is discussed. The consensus plan approved by the owner and the owner’s farrier is then accomplished by the owner’s farrier. Follow-up radiographs will be discussed. There will be one case each evening. The end time is no later than 9PM.

The goal is to see how farriers and equine practitioners work together on a particular case that can then translate to other cases.

The US alone has almost 10 million horses. The most current estimates are that 10% to 15% of horses will suffer from laminitis every year. In the US, that is 1 million horses per year. The ECIR Group has been there to help caregivers and their equines for 25 years, researching, educating, and helping equines negotiate rehabilitation from or avoidance of debilitating laminitis.

The 2025 Jubilee NO Laminitis! Conference will be a special celebration of the 25 years that the ECIR Group has remained the largest field-trial database for Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID) and Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS)/Insulin Resistance (IR) in the world, dedicated to the quest of helping metabolic equines. Attendees will welcome the latest in research and proven protocols used to improve the welfare of equines in their care. Join the ECIR Group, Drs. Kellon, Bowker, Gustafson and 10 top-level equine researchers and professionals in the ECIR Group Virtual Conference Room via Zoom
